Trouble logging in with firefox

Each time i try logging in firefox i get the error:
"For this function you need to be logged in."
If i enter a wrong password i get the error
"Wrong Password. You now have X tries left until you are blocked for 10m."
so the login script does differentiate between correct and wrong password but still won't let me log in.
no problems with chrome. I already tried disabling all firefox addons and still getting the error.

I use firefox mainly, and never had problems.

Yes i do like cookies. i didn't block them specifically and I didn't have any problems logging into other sites which use cookies
