Ubuntu WLAN problem
Google/translate2Thank You!1Good Post!1Bad Post! link
Hi all,
after having lost a lot of braincells, I'll give it a try and will ask in this forum for help.
Some months ago I've bought some Netbook Samsung N510.
It was installed with Windows 7. Last weekend I've decided to change the OS to Ubuntu 11.04. Everything is working fine, but I don't get the WLAN to work Sad

blah@pc:~$ lspci | grep -i net
03:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8192E Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (rev 13)

In Wicd Network Manager I don't see some wlan network.

Atm I'm thinking about buying some new WLAN-card via USB cuz I don't get it. I've downloaded a lot of drivers and installed many things to get it to work, but without success. Sad It will be great, if anyone can help me out with this problem.

PS: please step-by-step cuz I'm new to this stuff and don't have much experience in Ubuntu Smile

Thanks,
Jinx

i'm new to linux aswell and apart from what freeartman said...
is the wireless card turned on? its so simple but i also missed it Drool

theres usually a shortcut like Fn + f2 (f2 on mine but look for wireless symbol)
with that try turning it on or... off then on again.

and when you right click on wireless manger, enable wireless has a tick?

adding to what freeartman said, run 'iwconfig' by itself to see a list of devices to get its name...

hope this helps
chmod ---x--x--x,, i'm illiterate!

For me it's Fn+F9 but it doesn't show something like "Turned On". I think it's enabled. With "iwconfig" it says:
