It is merchandize time again.
Today i wanna tell you about plan9.
Plan 9 is an advanced operating system, designed to replace linux/unix, by unifying and fixing problems with the original design.
This beast, developed by the creators of unix and C, treats *everything* as a file.
This means that a remote desktop is as easy as mounting a remote screen file.
The project wants more users who try it out and give feedback.
If you like, you can contact jrmu@ircnow.org for a free demo account.
They are offering access to vps of an unofficial fork of the project, 9front.
We would also be happy to see you in their ircs://irc.ircnow.org:6697/#plan9. Here is an IRC Intro.

I'll give it a shot. What's different between the demo account vs just downloading it from the web site?
I heard about Plan9 a long time ago. No full featured we browser sounds like it will be hard to use considering everything is browser based now.

Their demo accounts are *probably* just in case you do not want to setup your own box.

If you're serious about Plan9, you shouldn't miss "Introduction to Operating Systems Abstractions Using Plan 9 from Bell Labs" by Francisco J. Ballesteros (see here).

Last time I ran Plan9 (in 2016) it was on QEMU using 9front's ISO images:
NOTE: The "vgabios.bin" is a QEMU vgabios ROM image. I used a modified one, so I can remember if specifying one is required or not.
