For anyone having problems connecting to IRC:
Be sure to connect to irc.wechall.net and notirc.gizmore.org any more.
If you're getting SSL errors, and it has worked before, most likely your client/OS are out of date and need updates. WeChall IRC server was upgraded recently to provide more security for you.

Should we update to a more modern chatting protocol? IRC is so old now and lacks features compared to the new ones.

You mean like updating to IRCv3? Good idea! 
I've been forced to use Matrix and Discord, both of which suck IMHO. I like IRC for being simple, clients having small footprints and it just does what it's supposed to do. Open for discussion tho.

I don't have IRC running all day (like some freaks here 
). Recently I have found some apps that let you stay active even when you're offline but I believe if we switch to Discord or Telegram there would be a lot more discussion on the channel
